Chicken Crisis

Well, it's happened.  It was my fear when we just couldn't shake off the intense heat and humidity.

We're infested with mites.

It's just awful.  The coop is full of them and the poor chickens are miserable.

We've applied Diatomaceous Earth and are hoping for some relief.  If anyone has any recommendations or ideas, please feel free to email or leave a comment.

I want my poor girls (and the handsome Mr. Clyde) to get some relief.

I'm told that what we applied would work....eventually, but it'll just take time.

For now, we wait.

Oh dear...par for the course though. We had mites when we first got the chickens but haven't had any problems since then. It's time to check them again though and I wouldn't be surprised if we find a problem with the heat and humidity here too. The powder worked well for us then so your babies should be feeling relief soon. Our meet birds will be separated later this week so we'll be down to a managable number by Saturday. Hang in there...all will be well again soon. Maura

Thanks so much Maura. Your comment gives me hope! We're going to take the chickens out of the coop this weekend, let them hang out outside and re-treat the cracks and crevices to make sure we get all those little bugs that are hiding.
