Weekends

Typically, the weekend would be coming to an end.
This weekend, however, I've got an extra day.  Whoo hoo!!
For those of you who show wonderful photos of yards without snow on your blogs, as you can see that sight is only a dream for us.
Although we finally have some snowless ground in sight, we are expecting 3-6 inches more tonight.
This weekend was filled with getting things done around the house.
The boys have been bathed.  That didn't go over too bad, particularly when you get an extra special salmon flavored treat afterward.
The chickens are happy.  They were able to spend the weekend outdoors.
They had warmed rice and leftover yogurt this morning.  A few of them shouted out "compliments to the chef!"
Cait is content.  She loved seeing the boys getting bathed.  She has lucked out of a bath for quite some time now.
Saturday Jay made scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast (that's as fancy as he gets) and I made his favorite quick Clam Chowder for lunch, Taco's for dinner and Blondies for dessert.
Sunday we had Frittata for breakfast, leftover soup for lunch and Trout for dinner.
I also made homemade Chocolate Pudding to have throughout the week.
I'll be baking bread tomorrow.
Jay will be able to take Blondies in his lunch this week as his extra special "treat".  Funny how you never grow out of being happy about a treat.
I washed a lot of dishes by hand.  Our old farmhouse has no dishwasher.  That's the only downside to cooking and baking so much, but it actually is an enjoyable time where I can relax and have my own quiet time.
I started reading a new book, but didn't get far.
I'm reading "My Life From Scratch" by Gesine Bullock-Prado.  Sandra Bullock's sister.
She and her husband own and run a bakery in Vermont.
Here's the sad truth.  When I was browsing through the book I saw the sentences "To be honest, I'm bright but not brilliant.  Bookish and being a smart-ass really don't add up to genius, though I wish they did."  I laughed out loud and decided she was my kind of writer.  I connected immediately.

So that was our weekend.
How was yours?

It sounds like a nice weekend and more to come. Yippee! I don't get tomorrow off but Mondays are my early day so I still love mondays. I know it sounds weird(even to me). I didn't get that much accomplished this weekend. I think I might have a second wind of energy and I might just have to stay up late and get busy. Only time will tell. I have really enjoyed your photos. I don't leave many comments but I stop all the time. Thanks for sharing them. Hope you have fun tomorrow. Lisa

Such stud-muffin pups standing in the sink! :)
Love 'em.

Sorry you're getting more snow! But maybe the extra day off will make up for it somehow... :)

What a great weekend Staci! Your coop is so pretty and neat looking. I bet the chickens enjoyed being outside for a change. Amazing how much snow you still have. Wow! Sounds like a great book to me too :) Enjoy your day off tomorrow ;)

Gosh! That's some amount of snow. How long will it be until it melts and you get your garden back? Personally I love it! It looks gorgeous - and you get time off :) In the sub tropics we HAVE (heehee) to garden all year!

Sounds nice. I had a long weekend also, so I actually enjoyed time to make wine and bake.

Teresa - making wine...sounds enjoyable!! Yes, we still have mounds of snow. No idea how long it will take to leave of us. One thing is for sure, it will be a very muddy spring. Laura, I drool over your year-round garden. To have fresh veg right now would be amazing.
Thanks for the wonderful comments!

I loved this post (as always)! I also feel another connection - I have no dishwasher either!! To be honest, I don't feel too underprivileged but it would be nice if a little elf would stop by and wash my dishes.. just every once in awhile;) Your pictures are just wonderful!-Tammy
