Tourist season has officially arrived. Friday night we wanted to go and get an ice cream in town. For those of you that are local, we went to The Ice Cream Man's new location in Saratoga. We should have gone the long way around the center of town but didn't and got stuck in the dinnertime traffic. J had a nice time looking at all the motorcycles lining the streets though since Americade is up North this weekend. Luckily, with everyone at dinner, there wasn't too bad of a line at the ice cream shoppe. I'm not sure what was best - the ice cream or the people-watching.
The garden is coming into it's own. There are huge changes everyday. I actually took the photos above on Friday and today the plants are noticeably larger. And we have a few almost red strawberries!! Hooray! Although the asparagus is slowing down, we are still averaging about 4 stalks a day. Not bad. My sunflowers have disappeared again....... I'm going with a chipmunk or squirrel as the thief. I'm trying to grow them for the chickens since they love them, but I'll have to try for a third time this week.
The blackberry bush we inherited isn't doing anything at all. I'm hopeful that it's just in shock this year and will flourish next year. We are planning to add one or two more garden beds - seems to be the theme for every year. I think adding them slowly has been a good idea though. It allows us to get what we have under our belt then figure out what we want to add for the next year. Keeping up with the weeding is the most time consuming part of it.
On the menu this week: Grilled Teriyaki Flank Steak with Smashed Baby Red Potatoes and Broccoli; Grilled Trout with Pineapple Salsa and Rice; Smoked BBQ Pork Ribs with Mac & Cheese and Salad; Chicken Peanut Satay with Peanut Dipping Sauce, Potstickers and Grilled Asparagus; Grilled Rib Eye's with Cowboy Butter, Homefries and Asparagus; and Grilled Chicken Quarters with Baked Beans and Coleslaw.
Hoping you're having a wonderful weekend!!
