This is my first year with chickens and I love them.

I found these stick on led light switches useful in the dark since there is no electricity in the coop. I place them higher up in the coop just inside the people-sized door for easy access.

https://www.dollargeneral.com/dg-hardware-light-switch-stick-on-led.html

Plastic Boot Trays are good to put under the feeders/waterers inside the coop. Messes are contained to the tray instead of the coop floor. I suppose these can be used under roosts to catch droppings. Easy to move and easy to clean.

Recently had some hawk attacks so I tied up some green floral bind wire I had laying around (paper covered wire) from the coop to their run fencing until I can put a proper covering or netting. It seems to work OK for now.

Learning new things all the time to keep the chicks happy.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06343092456549556454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8990217242364259191.post-83618452106917551572016-11-30T08:51:12.552-05:002016-11-30T08:51:12.552-05:00I loved this article. We since have moved about 6 miles away and bought 7 acres, much to my hubby's shigrin. We now have 70+ ladies and 2 coops and they have 1/2 acre of fenced run. One thing we did slightly different was I happened on a scrap piece of linoleum from Lowes that we covered the floor with and it has been a God send. Easy and fast clean ups. Thanks again. They like to be up high, so if it's too low they may not be thrilled. Around waist high is usually a pretty good height to make them feel safe. Our indoor roost is made from a piece of 2x4 cut down and then the edges rounded. Our outdoor coop has a similar roost and then a wooden dowel for a roost. They use them all the time. I hope this helps!
