Homestead Journal - Spring At Cobble Hill Farm (entry 3)

In one month, summer will officially arrive!

It's hard to believe, isn't it?  We've had a great spring, weather-wise, including an ample amount of rain and lots of sunshine.

Our (hopefully) wild bunny-proof fencing is up on the garden.  Unfortunately, we didn't install it until after they devoured every single pea plant and carrot top, but at least it's up.  Fingers crossed this works.

The coop girls are doing well and enjoying all of the sunshine.  Between them and the multiple wild bunnies, we've always got an animal dust bathing in the dirt.  The bunnies are very funny to watch, I must admit.  And the little ones get to running but have no idea which direction they want to go so they dart one way, and then another, and then look a bit confused before darting yet another direction.

Our fruit trees are looking like they will all be full of fruit this year.  I've been harvesting asparagus, carrots, herbs, and greens.  I plan to harvest some rhubarb this weekend and make our favorite Rhubarb Quick Bread.  I need to move 2 of the elderberry bushes before they get too big.  They are not receiving enough sunlight where they are at and are clearly not happy about that.

Our farmers market traffic picked up the first 2 Sundays of May, which is always a good thing.  It gives us hope that it will be a good summer season.  That being said, I will not be posting regularly until probably fall.  Because our first busy season for our soap business has just begun, I will be working to keep up with that and I also plan to be online a lot less this year.  More time for hobbies, getting projects done and checked off of my to-do list, and doing enjoyable things outside are top on my list for any spare time I have this summer.

I hope all is well with you and that your summer allows for time to relax and enjoy the little things the season has to offer.
